Planned Giving Program
We receive generous
donations from people and groups like you. But our goal is to provide
sustainable funding to our programs, funding we can count on in the
future, so we have launched our new Planned Giving Program.
Planned giving and how it works
Planned giving is a way for you to leave money to the Foundation as part of
your financial or estate planning. A planned gift is a very personal legacy
that can take many forms. You could, for instance:
- leave the Foundation a bequest in your will
- make us the beneficiary of your insurance policy
- give us a gift of cash, securities or property
- make a commemorative gift as a tribute to someone who has died
- leave the Foundation an endowment.
Your first step in the planned giving
process
If you're interested in learning more about planned giving, just
get in touch with us. We'll be happy to tell you how
your planned gift will be managed, how it will be used and how it will
contribute to the long-term sustainability of health care in our community. We
will be pleased to answer your questions and provide any additional information
you may need.
Your second step
Once you've spoken with us, the next step is to discuss a planned gift with
your financial or legal advisors. This could be your banker, your lawyer, your
accountant or your financial advisor. He or she can review your personal
situation and determine which kind of gift would benefit you, your family and
the Foundation. The AWHF is a member of the Canadian Association of Gift
Planners, and your advisors should also feel free to contact us if they need
additional information about the Foundation or our planned giving program.
Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our
Planned Giving Program..
I don't have a lot of money. Can I still
leave a legacy?
Of course you can. You design your legacy on your own terms, based entirely on
your own wishes and your own circumstances. That's why it's important to
discuss your legacy with your financial advisor. Money isn't the only thing you
can leave to the Foundation as a planned gift.
Does my legacy have to be made public?
No, you may choose to keep your planned gift completely confidential, and we
will respect your wishes.
What if I want to leave a planned gift in
memory of someone?
In that case, you simply have to specify in your will that your gift has been
left in memory of a friend or family member, and we will recognize it in an
appropriate way.
Can I direct my legacy toward a specific
program or use?
Yes, you may direct your planned gift toward a specific program or use. Come
and talk to us about the Foundation and its needs, and then make your own
decision in consultation with your advisors.
